Job Title: Minister of Worship and Congregational Praise
Location: Gospel Light Community Church, Leeds
Salary: £12.50–£13.50 per hour
Hours: Full-time – 37.5 hours per week
Working Days/Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Regular Sunday services and occasional evenings/weekends required)
Start Date: 24th October 2025
Contract Type: Permanent

Principal Function
The Minister of Worship and Congregational Praise will lead and develop a dynamic music ministry that inspires meaningful corporate worship, strengthens fellowship, and promotes spiritual growth across all age groups within the church.
The postholder will work in close consultation with the Senior Pastor to ensure that all worship services and special programmes are thoughtfully planned and spiritually aligned with the church’s vision, doctrine, and preaching ministry.
Key Responsibilities
A. Leadership of Worship and Music Ministry
- Plan, organise, and evaluate a comprehensive music and worship programme inclusive of all age groups within the church.
- Work in consultation with the Senior Pastor to plan Sunday services and special events, ensuring that music enhances and supports the worship message.
- Lead congregational praise at regular and special services.
- Direct and rehearse the choir and worship team, including recruiting new members and providing spiritual guidance.
- Develop and oversee music programmes for children and young people, encouraging participation in worship services.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers serving within vocal and instrumental music ministries.
- Organise and oversee instrumental music groups where appropriate.
- Encourage members of all ages to contribute their musical gifts to the life of the church.
- Identify opportunities for music ministry involvement in outreach initiatives and community engagement.
- Supervise music ministry personnel, accompanists, and audio/technical support volunteers.
- Serve as a resource for music at weddings, funerals, memorial services, and other special occasions.
- Participate in wider ministerial responsibilities as required, including pastoral support where appropriate.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor in support of the church’s mission.
B. Administration of the Music Ministry
- Prepare and recommend an annual music ministry budget in line with church financial procedures.
- Manage the approved budget responsibly and submit reports as required.
- Select and purchase music, equipment, and supplies in accordance with church policies.
- Oversee the maintenance and proper use of musical instruments, sound equipment, music library resources, and related materials.
- Coordinate music ministry activities with the wider church calendar in collaboration with pastoral leadership and relevant committees.
- Contribute to church leadership meetings where required to ensure alignment of worship ministry with overall church strategy.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrable experience in leading congregational worship
- Strong vocal ability and proficiency in at least one musical instrument
- Sound biblical knowledge and commitment to Christian doctrine and values
- Proven leadership and team management ability
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the Senior Pastor and pastoral team
- Good time management and flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required
- Satisfactory enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain)
- Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and the mission of the church
Desirable Criteria
- Formal theological or music qualification
- Experience overseeing multi-age church music programmes
- Experience in budget management within a church or charitable setting
- Competence in audio systems and church worship technology
- Experience in planning special services and large-scale church events

Recruitment Process
Following receipt and review of applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and issued with an assessment form as part of the selection process. The assessment will evaluate theological understanding, leadership experience, administrative competence, and practical worship ministry skills.
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment stage will be invited to attend an in-person interview at Gospel Light Community Church, Leeds. The interview may include a practical worship leadership demonstration and a meeting with the senior pastor and pastoral leadership team.
